The Mitte Endowed Chair in Semiconductor
Manufacturing, Education, & Research at Southwest Texas State University
Deadline: It is anticipated that the Selection Committee will first meet to
review applications in June 98, and will continue to review applications
until a suitable candidate is found.
Compensation: Negotiable based on the experience and qualifications of the
candidate. The salary will be commensurate with that expected for a
prestigious endowed chair.
Starting Date: Flexible, can begin immediately.
An endowed chair has been jointly awarded to the Southwest Texas State
University (SWT) Departments of Physics & Technology in the area of
Semiconductor Manufacturing, Education, & Research. This position will be
responsible for establishing and directing quality, high profile
educational and research programs at SWT related to the semiconductor
industry. These programs will include the fabrication and manufacturing of
microelectronic devices with accompanying research in materials science,
and will be supported by a new Technology-Physics building that is expected
to be completed by summer 2002. This new facility will contain numerous
sophisticated laboratories appropriate for thin film fabrication,
characterization, and related manufacturing. This facility also includes a
new 6200 nsf Class 1000 Semiconductor Microfabrication Laboratory.
Specific duties of the Mitte chair will include: (1) designing and managing
a new 6,200 square foot microfabrication laboratory, (2) facilitating
collaborative research efforts with faculty utilizing the microfabrication
facility, (3) cultivating and maintaining close working relationships with
the semiconductor and related industries, (4) building linkages for
external support from industry and government agencies, (5) developing
appropriate curriculum and programs, and (6) teaching related courses. The
individual selected must have extensive experience with the semiconductor
manufacturing industry and strong academic credentials so that he/she can
successfully represent and promote the University with its external
constituencies. The Mitte chair will be a key player in SWT's innovative
efforts to develop innovative teaching & research programs relevant to the
national semiconductor industry, including nearby Austin, Texas' vibrant
semiconductor industry base just 25-35 miles away.
