Greetings,
In June of next summer, the biennial University/Government/Industry
Microelectronics (UGIM) Symposium will be will be held at the University of
Minnesota in Minneapolis. This symposium traditionally involves academic
and industrial researchers gathering to share information ranging from
educational courses related to microelectronics to research results in a
variety of areas. We are particularly interested in submissions applying
traditional microelectronics facilities to non-traditional microelectronics
research and education. For more information, please see the call for
papers at the Symposium www site: www.mtl.umn.edu/ugim99/. Note the
abstract deadline is Jan 15, 1999. Please consider asking someone from
your institution submit an abstract.

In addition to the normal symposium which begins on Monday, June 21, on
Sunday June 20th, the University of Minnesota Microtechnology Laboratory
will have a free open house with facility tours. I am hoping we can
convince lab managers or others who are involved in managing university
research laboratories to come on Sunday afternoon, see the facility we have
here, and then participate in a discussion session regarding common
problems/issues such as funding, equipment, staffing, facilities support,
etc. If you have suggestions on additional topics or session format,
please let me know. I believe that we all could benefit from a face to
face information sharing session, and it would be nice to put a face to the
names we see on these emails. Please don't hestitate to call or email me
with other suggestions.
