MARC2006
January 25-26, 2006
Waterville Valley Conference and Event Center

Poster Guidelines

Deadlines

Poster(s) must be submitted no later than 5 PM on January 18, 2006. Your poster will be transported to the conference by MTL.

NOTE: If you are having your poster printed by an external vendor (that means your poster was not printed by MTL), please bring it to Mara Karapetian in 39-313 by Tuesday, January 24 at 5:00PM.

Formatting

Poster must fit within a 4’ X 4' space, preferably using most of that space. The structure supporting each poster will be 4’ X 8'  board standing on top of thin classroom tables -- two different posters will be placed on each board. Note that during the process of attaching the poster to the board, the boards may be taken off the table and placed on a flat surface.

We recommend that the posters be in PPT format in order to allow the slides to be plotted onto a single sheet.  By doing so, the presentation can be easily transported as a single rolled-up sheet, is easy to setup, and can be printed and distributed on standard letter-size sheets (8.5” X 11").

Plotting

The following are tips for printing large format posters using PPT.  An EECS plotter has been made available for use.  Posters can also be plotted at FedEx Kinko's or MIT CopyTech if you are unable to make the submission deadline, but you must arrange payment on your own.

Note: FedEx Kinko's offers MIT personnel a discount on their services; please call to confirm pricing and availability.

  • Define the size and orientation. File > Page Setup. Decide whether the poster's printed orientation is going to be landscape (wide) or portrait (long). Although the width of the plotter is 36 inches, the maximum printable area is 34” X 48".
  • Create your MARC ’06 poster.
  • Save your poster in PowerPoint (PPT) or Portable Document Format (PDF) and submit it by no later than 5 PM on January 18, 2006. You will be informed when you can claim your poster for transport to the conference.
  • If you want to print an 8.5” x 11” mini-version of your poster for distribution/hand-outs, change the size to 8.5” X 11" under Page Setup and print to your personal printer.

Presenting

Each poster will be assigned a specific location in one of the meeting rooms of the Waterville Valley Conference Center. A map will be available when you arrive at the conference center showing the location for your poster, and a 9” X 12" sheet with your poster title will be posted at the location that you have been assigned.
