MARC2007
January 24-25, 2007
Waterville Valley Conference & Event Center
Poster Guidelines
Deadlines
5:00PM on January
10, 2007.
All posters must be sent to poster07@mtl.mit.edu by
this date, or they will not be printed by MTL! If you choose to have
your poster printed elsewhere, please drop it off in 39-313 by January
10, 2007.
When your poster has been printed, an e-mail will be sent to you.
You can stop by 39-313 to review your poster during office hours
(TBD) or by prior appointment.
Formatting
Poster must fit within a 4’ X 4' space, preferably using most
of that space. The structure supporting each poster will be 4’ X
8' board standing on top of thin classroom tables -- two different
posters will be placed on each board. Note that during the process
of attaching the poster to the board, the boards may be taken off
the table and placed on a flat surface.
We recommend that the posters be in PPT format in order to allow
the slides to be plotted onto a single sheet. By doing so,
the presentation can be easily transported as a single rolled-up
sheet, is easy to setup, and can be printed and distributed on standard
letter-size sheets (8.5” X 11").
Plotting
The following are tips for printing large format posters using PPT. An
EECS plotter has been made available for use. Posters can also
be plotted at FedEx Kinko's or MIT CopyTech if you are unable to
make the submission deadline, but you must arrange payment on your
own.
Note: FedEx Kinko's offers MIT personnel a discount on their services;
please call to confirm pricing and availability.
- Define the size and orientation. File > Page Setup.
Decide whether the poster's printed orientation is going to be
landscape (wide) or portrait (long). Although the width of the
plotter is 36 inches, the maximum printable area is 34” X
48".
- Create your MARC ’06 poster.
- Save your poster in PowerPoint (PPT) or Portable Document Format
(PDF) and submit it by no
later than 5 PM on January 10, 2007. You will be informed when
you can claim your poster for transport to the conference.
- If you want to print an 8.5” x 11” mini-version of
your poster for distribution/hand-outs, change the size to 8.5” X
11" under Page Setup and print to your personal printer.
Presenting
Each poster will be assigned a specific location in one of the meeting
rooms of the Waterville Valley Conference Center. A map will be available
when you arrive at the conference center showing the location for
your poster, and a 9” X 12" sheet with your poster title
will be posted at the location that you have been assigned.
Presentation Guidelines
Awards
As an incentive to present your work eloquently
to a wide audience of your own peers, faculty, and industry representatives,
awards will be given to the best oral presentations. They will be
evaluated by the industry attendees at MARC2007. Awards will be
presented at the closing of MARC2007 on Thursday, January 25, 2007.
The winners will be asked to repeat their presentation on the day
following MARC2007 at the Microsystems Industrial Group (MIG) board
meeting (January 26, 2007).
Deadlines
The Microsoft Powerpoint (PPT) slide must be e-mailed to the session
chair no later than 5:00 PM on January 10, 2007.
NOTE: PPT slide(s) that do not arrive by the deadline will not appear
in the technical program.
Formatting
PPT slides shall use the format provided in the PPT template and shall
be in PPT format with a file name consisting of the title number
(e.g. “1.03.doc” would
be the third abstract in session 1). See “Session Titles” tab
on the MARC ’07 website for title number. The total number of slides
is not to exceed one (1) slide. Each PPT presentation is also limited
to a total of 90 seconds.
The titles and authors must be formatted to exactly match the session
listing on the MARC ’07 website. Pay careful attention to capitalization
of words in title and the format for names (e.g. A.J. Smith, T.V.
Homes, J.C. Thomas). See “Session Titles” tab. If a correction
needs to be made to the online listing, e-mail the publications chair.
NOTE: To be fair to all presenters, each PPT presentation strictly is
limited to a total of 90 seconds.
