Alex Guo, graduate student in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science working with Jesus del Alamo's research group at MTL, was honored in April 2015 by the Office of the Dean for Graduate Education at the Graduate Women of Excellence celebration. The honorees were nominated and selected based on their leadership and service contributions at the Institute, their dedication to mentoring and their drive to make changes to improve the student experience.

Over the past five years, in addition to her work on a number of exciting research projects at MTL, Ms. Guo has invested her time and energy working with groups of graduate students and administration on projects related to diversity, equality, and student wellness at MIT. Through her involvement with student organizations such as Graduate Women at MIT and the MIT Graduate Student Council, she has gained many useful skills while at the same time broadening and deepening her friendships at the Institute.

The celebration was held at the Microsoft NERD Center. Honorees presented posters to help attendees learn about their accomplishments, discover the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead, and above all, celebrate their work. "I am pleased to share this honor with my colleagues, and I look forward to continuing my service to the MIT community," Ms. Guo said in a statement. MTL is ecstatic to see one of our own listed among the honorees, and we are pleased to join with the ODGE in congratulating Ms. Guo on this well-deserved recognition.
