Apple Mail.app for Mac OS X 10.2.x
- Follow the instructions on the MTL Certificate
Page in order to download the MTL CA
- Open Mail.app and go the Mail Application menu and select Preferences...
- Select Accounts from the Preferences window. Click on Add Account
- In the Account Information section of the
Account creation window, enter the following:
- Account Type: select 'IMAP' from the list
- Description: MTL Mail Services
- Email Address: <your mtl username>@mtl.mit...
- Full Name: <your name>
- Incoming Mail Server: mtl-pobox.mit.edu
- User Name: <your mtl username>
- Password: (leave blank)
- Select Add Server... from the Outgoing Mail
Server list. In the window that pops up, enter the following:
- Outgoing Mail Server: mtl.mit.edu
- Server port: (leave as 25)
- Check the 'Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)' box
- Authentication: select 'Password' from the list
- User Name: <your MTL username>
- Password: (leave blank)
- Click OK when finished.
- Select the Special Mailboxes tab in the
Account creation window. The boxes for moving deleted messages to Trash
and storing the deleted messages on the server should already be
selected. You should choose how long that you wish to keep deleted
messages around. If you only want to empty the trash manually, then
select Never from the drop list for Permanently
erase deleted messages when:. If you wish to store Draft,
Sent, and/or Junk email messages on the server, check the appropriate
boxes and select when you want the messages to be deleted, if ever.
- Select the Advanced tab in the Account
creation window. Check the Use SSL box.
- Close the Account creation window and your settings will be
saved.
