Using MTL ยป Computation

Thunderbird 2.0.x Setup Instructions


  1. Open the New Account Wizard
    • If this is your first time using Thunderbird, it should pop-up automatically.
    • Otherwise go File --> New --> Account

  2. In New Account Setup select "New Email Account"

  3. In Identity:
    • Your Name:     <your name>
    • Email Address:<your MTL username>@mtl.mit.edu

  4. In Server Information:
    • Select IMAP
    • Incoming Server:mtl-pobox.mit.edu
    • Outgoing Server:mtl.mit.edu

  5. In User Names:
    • Incoming User Name:<your MTL username>
    • Outgoing User Name: <your MTL username>

  6. In Account Name:
    • Account Name:MTL Mail Services

  7. Verify that everything is correct and click finish.

  8. Go Tools --> Account Settings. Click on MTL Mail Services.

  9. Change
    • Reply-to Address:<your MTL username>@mtl.mit.edu

  10. Click on MTL Mail Services --> Server Settings. In the Security Settings box select SSL.

  11. Click on Outgoing Server.
    • Click on "<your user name> - mtl.mit.edu" then click Edit
    • In the Security and Authentication box select TLS

  12. Click OK to close the windows

  13. Click Get Mail.
    • Fill in your MTL password as requested.
    • A box should come up asking you whether to accept the MTL mail-server certificate.
    • Select "Accept permanently" and click OK

  14. The first time you send an email, you will also be prompted to accept the outgoing mail-server certificate. Select "Accept permanently" and click OK.
