Thunderbird 3.0.x Setup Instructions


  1. Open the New Account Wizard
    • If this is your first time using Thunderbird, it should pop-up automatically.
    • Otherwise go File --> New --> Mail Account

  2. In Mail Account Setup:
    • Your Name:     <your name>
    • Email Address:<your MTL username>@mtl.mit.edu
    • Password :     <your MTL password>
    • Uncheck the Remember Password check box if it is checked.
    • Click Continue
    • Click the Stop button and manually fill in the data.

  3. In Editing Config:
    • Username: <Your MTL username>
    • Incoming: mtl-pobox.mit.edu    IMAP    993    SSL/TLS
    • Outgoing: mtl.mit.edu    SMTP    25    STARTTLS
    • Click Manual Setup:

  4. In Account Settings:
    • Click on the Account Name which should be listed as <your MTL username>@mtl.mit.edu.
    • Change your Reply-to Address to: <your MTL username>@mtl.mit.edu
    • Change any other settings that you would like to change for this mail account.
    • Click OK to finish setup.

  5. Click Get Mail.
    • Fill in your MTL password as requested.
    • A box should come up asking you whether to accept the MTL mail-server certificate.
    • Select "Accept permanently" and click OK

  6. The first time you send an email, you will also be prompted to accept the outgoing mail-server certificate. Select "Accept permanently" and click OK.
