Why GaN is the Power Technology of the Future

Alex Lidow, EPC

Alex Lidow is CEO of Efficient Power Conversion Corporation (EPC). Dr. Lidow holds many patents in power semiconductor technology and has authored numerous publications on the subject. He co-authored _GaN Transistors for Efficient Power Conversion_, the first textbook on GaN FET technology and applications. Lidow earned his Ph.D. from Stanford in 1977.

We will discuss the state-of-the-art and the expected progress of GaN technology over the next few years, showing that Moore's Law is alive and well in the world of power semiconductor technology. We will also show the benefits derived from the latest GaN power devices in emerging applications such as LiDAR, wireless power transmission, and RF envelope tracking. All cases support the evolving trend of conversion from silicon to gallium nitride transistors.
