*The Institute for Molecular Engineering (IME)*, established in 2011 by
the University of Chicago in partnership with Argonne National
Laboratory, is a transformational academic unit exploring the
intersection of science and engineering. IME explores innovative
technologies that address fundamental societal problems through advances
in nanoscale manipulation and design on a molecular scale. IME is the
largest new academic program that the University has started since
1988. Coupled with the construction of a new ~12,000 square foot Class
100 cleanroom, the IME is currently seeking a*Cleanroom Manager*.
The Cleanroom Manager is responsible for the strategic planning,
designing and implementation of a state of the art cleanroom facility.
Specifically the Cleanroom Manager will:
. Lead day-to-day technical operations of the cleanroom facility.
. Manage a staff of 5-8 personnel.
. Ensure that the cleanroom facility and specialty systems are fully
operational and comply with University standards for integrated safety
management, ESH/QA, and general University operations.
. Work closely with the faculty director to establish, manage and
balance annual operational budget of the cleanroom. The activities
include establishing, monitoring and managing all operational expenses,
both one-time and on-going; establishing, monitoring and adjusting as
needed the usage rates; working with IME financial team to manage
accounts collectible for the cleanroom as well as developing and
managing the needed capitals for maintaining and upgrading the
infrastructure and tools of the cleanroom.
. Keep abreast of the newest development of tools and equipment as
well as use requirements.
. Participate in the strategic planning for the continuing
improvement of the cleanroom and implementation of the strategic plan
for the Cleanroom to serve both internal and external academic and
industrial user basis in the optimal and most efficient way.
. Develop and implement a customer satisfaction program.
. Develop, implement, and maintain a user training and certification
program as required to gain access to the facility.
. Troubleshoot and coordinate the maintenance and repairs of the
tools to ensure the un-interrupted operation of the cleanroom.
*Requirements:*
Bachelor's Degree and 10 years of relevant industrial or academic
experience/equivalent OR Master's Degree and 8 years of relevant
industrial or academic experience/equivalent required. Ph.D. and 5 years
of relevant industrial or academic experience/equivalent preferred.
